![]() How To Choose The Right Dust Mop
There are three basic types of dust mops. LOOPED-END - These mops are newer to the market place than the conventional cut-end designs: Looped-end construction eliminates linting and fraying. It provides extra durability in the laundering cycles, with no loose ends; mops last longer, withstand laundering and are far less vulnerable to tangling and deterioration in the laundry. DISPOSABLE - These dust mops give you an alternative choice for dust control. Disposables are a solid choice in certain circumstances, particularly where laundering is not possible. The longevity of a disposable can be greatly enhanced if brushed out and re-treated.
![]() BACKING - Virtually all dust mops were constructed out of canvas duck. Canvas duck backing is still a popular material, and functions quite well in most situations. It has good strength, it's long lasting and highly absorbent. Absorbent duck acts as a reservoir allowing the mop to hold more treatment. Synthetic backing materials are highly recommended in today's dust control programs. DURA-PRO is a synthetic backing which is non-absorbent, mildew-resistant, stronger, less likely to become discolored or stained and more abrasion resistant than canvas. Since DURA-PRO will not hold treatment, this allows all the dust mop treatment to remain in the yarn where actual cleanings take place. DURA-PRO constructed mops require less treatment, dry faster in the laundry, saving both treatment and laundry cost.
COLOR-CODING - Like wet mops, today's dust mop can be color-coded to provide identification by mop size, budget or area of use. Lafitte's dust mops are available in various yarn and backing colors to provide a wide range of possible color combinations. TREATMENTS - Top of the line treatments consist of a paraffin-based substance to attract and retain dust and to also prevent creating a slippery surface. Properly treated dust mops have been proven twice as effective as untreated tools. That is the reason properly treated dust mops are widely recognized as the most efficient and least costly of dust control methods available. Daily brushing out and occasional retreatment is usually sufficient to obtain maximum performance.
